The Vision: Teravana is a pristine coastal nature retreat spread across 730 wild acres in Sonoma, California, USA. The founders feel honoured to be the stewards of this historical land and have a dual vision for the property - to protect it through a rich ecology and forestry programme, while also providing a space for people to be healed by nature through various mind and body workshops.
The Idea: QBF was approached by our friends at Two Hands Brands to build a brand identity and visual world for this space as an extension to the brand strategy they were working on. Collaborating with their team and through close interaction and workshops with the clients, a deeper understanding of the inspiring vision for this space was collectively understood. 'Spirituality, through nature and ecology' and 'healing people through healing the planet' became the guiding briefs for the brand building exercise.
The Identity: The logo finds a restrained solution to a deeper concept. Ascension, or rising to higher thought and action, is expressed through an organic levitating letter V, also interpreted as a bird or the hills of Sonoma County.
An important aspect of the visual language is a set of illustrations that evoke the spirit of joy through connection to nature. Made in the style of a relief print technique that mimics the natural textures of moss, lichen and mud, with characters that are decidedly inclusive in their expression of gender, race, nationality and body shape.

Gentle guidance
A series of nature inspired icons are etched, printed and
painted across signage, publications and other brand
communication. Without the pressure of being purely
functional, they have the freedom to be more illustrative
and assist in building a mood for the space.
